Default Cranberries and Flu Prevention

Some more immune boosting goodness based on foods we can eat.

Unhappy What else??

I'm flying to Chicago for a funeral on Friday, and I'm getting a little nervous about all the swirling germies on the plane. I'm really not too jazzed about getting the H1N1 or flu vaccines while pregnant (especially considering there's a good chance I've already had the "pig" virus itself) but I reeeally don't want to get sick again. Quick, what can I pump myself full of in for next several days to help keep me healthy on the flights there and back??

OH MY OH MY< how did I miss this... So sorry! Your probably already gone now. I'll post anyway, in case you see it on your trip....

Cranberries, I've read lots of good things about, but sour to swallow, almost have to be in Smoothie or baked form.

Apples, an apple a day really can help keep the doctor away.... They are usually helpful.

Lemon/honey both help fight off the yuck

Zinc, Magnesium..

I always say avoid dairy during potential sick times as it increases mucous but not sure if you can do that with pregnancy.

Try to eat many light meals instead of hardy big ones, and limiting sugar... all help the immune system be strong.

When I travel, I always take a dose of Echinacea something before the plane and once we get home. Used to take those Airbornes too, and you can find them everywhere, I think even the airport. The fizzle also settled my stomach on planes, so I'd take a tablet there and back. Tom's of maine used to have a great immune booster and my Midwife OK'd me to take while pregnant. But they don't make it anymore. So I'm not sure about any others being safe these days.

not sure if any of this is safe while pregnant actually so be careful and talk to your doc.

This sounds horribly silly but I've been told that the flu enters through the nose. Knowing ACV can kill the flu and colds in some cases, I've been rubbing a bit of it on the inside of my nose if I know I've been around a sick person. Just a tiny dab. Strangely enough doing this has stopped an allergy in its tracks while in my MIL's house and she has cats. I love ACV :-) Also we were with friends on our trip, and we all went to the same places. Later that week they all appeared sick, but none of us did and we did the ACV nose thing every day. ha ha

Anyway, hope your travels go well, and that you don't need to worry about sick bugs...
