hmmm... I guess I'm not a very good tipper! I usually just do the 15%. It's time to raise the bar on myself then and be more generous. Thanks for the feedback.

Most of my work life has been in the restaurant industry. What a lot of ppl don't know is that you get paid 2.13 an hour and you have to tip out a busboy, bartender, and hostess at most places. If I have a 20 dollar check I have to tip out 2% (.40) to the hostess, 3% of any alcohol sales to the bartender and then usually 2% to the busboy so if someone leaves a 10% tip of 2.00 I actually get to keep only 1.20 of it at most. If that person decided to stiff me (stealing IMO) then I pay, out of my pocket for them to eat there. So when I go out I always tip at least 15% even for bad service and 25% or more for good service. If I am having bad service I simply speak to the mgr on duty and get a new one. 10 years of working a few different places and I've NEVER seen anyone do anything disgusting to anyone's food.

Always, 20%. I don't care if the service is exceptional or terrible I just leave 20%.
I do not tip when I pick up curb side food or take out. |

I go out to eat all the time. I try to tip about 20%. I find that if you frequent a place and consistently tip well the service is almost always exceptional. I know one place I go a lot if I get a new server by the time they come back with my drink they seem to be way friendlier! Sometimes I think the other staff tells them while they are back there

I double the tax here too. If service is crappy and at the end of the meal I am staring at a glass of ice and I have not told her not to give me more that drops a buck cause that is a peeve of mine.
I like to do the random acts of kindness ones too. Sometimes it is because I am impressed. Have you all been to the Waffle House at Lovell Rd? I kid you not Melissa is psychic. She brings me things before I even know I want them. I always leave her 10 -15 bucks and our bill is usually 18. She earns it. But a couple weeks ago Maddie and I were at Silver spoon. The service wasn't super, but I just had a feeling like he needed it more than I did so got all the cash I had. Not much, but about 100% of the bill. You know? I have never missed money I felt compelled to give to someone else. I have never handed someone money and then 2 days later wished I had it back. It works out when you listen to your heart. |
