I have some unopened Glucose Meters and a slew of unopened needles that I used years ago when I was undergoing fertility treatments and I just don't know what to do with them. These are all sealed and completely sanitary. They are packaged exactly as they were when I bought them at the pharmacy. The needles are actually still in the Walgreens bag. I'm assuming some organization could use them but I'm just not sure where to take them. I found an organization online that I could ship the Glucose Meters to but I'd rather donate them somewhere local. Any ideas???

We're looking at a house in Oak Ridge, and I believe my boys (just shy of 3 years old and 9 months old) would be zoned for Glenwood Elementary. I don't expect schools to do all of the work, certainly, but I cringe at the thought of my children not being in a top-notch program. My husband is a product of Oak Ridge schools, and he's not dumb (well, sometimes... ...I kid!), but he graduated 20 years ago. I'm very comfortable in my West Knoxville existence but would be more excited and willing to tear myself away from Northshore Drive if I knew more about Oak Ridge schools.

Please relay anything you know about education in modern-day Oak Ridge. Best schools? Stinky schools? Good teachers? Bad teachers? Programs that are awesome? Programs that are lacking? Help me ease my neurotic, nervous mind. :)

The kiddos are wanting an easel for Christmas. I'm thinking two-sided (cause I'm only buying one of them). What would you all recommend? Wood or plastic? Both have mixed reviews. I think it's going in my kitchen so wood would look better but I don't want cracked legs in two months! Also, is there a brand that you all have had luck with? And, most importantly, have you seen any ON SALE?
Thanks!

I just read the funniest Onion article about Montessori School of Dentistry. I thought some of you might get a kick out of this. And I'm in no way trying to talk bad about Montessori as I think it's a great school and almost sent my daughter to one.

"Teachers—or "roving dental facilitators," as they prefer to be called—can be difficult to spot: They often choose to stay out of the way of their inquisitive pupils, and only make gentle suggestions as to how an infected root chamber should be drained.

"When performing a root canal, there's no such thing as right or wrong," said Montessori educator Vanessa Perrin, who added that she doesn't so much teach her students how to treat an inflamed nerve, as lead them to an open mouth and then stand back. "Sure, we could say to our students, 'The enamel here has completely eroded and needs to be addressed immediately.' But what's more satisfying, what's more dynamic, is to just let them slowly develop an 'impression' of why a patient might be screaming." "

Synopsis:
Certain Evenflo First Choice infant child restraint systems, Model 3604098, manufactured between January 16 and September 29, 2009, fail to conform to the labeling requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 213, "Child Restraint Systems." A label containing important information was left off the seat. A label was inadvertently left off this product that contains certain required information about contacting Evenflo to register the car seat in case of a recall, information about contacting the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for recall information, as well as a statement certifying that the car seat complies with the safety standard and is certified for use in aircraft. Evenflo will mail the required labels along with placement instructions to registered owners free of charge. The safety campaign is expected to begin during November 2009. Owners may contact Evenflo toll-free at 1-800-233-5921 between 8am and 5pm EST.

There's something in the house that I didn't birth, marry, or purchase. It chews. It scrabbles. It is nocturnal.

And my daughter is terrified of the sounds.

We're not getting any sleep. 3am. She's climbing on top of us. 4am. She wants to go back to her bed. (She has always, from birth, hated sharing a bed. She hates beds. I have to dig her out of her nest some nights to put her back in her bed.) 5am. She's waking her brothers to get in their beds. 6am. The alarm clock goes off.

I can't find this creature. I can hear it. I hear it right now, somewhere near the fridge. If I get up, the sounds stop. I've moved the fridge. Nada. (except some stuff we won't mention that is now gone.) There is nothing nibbled on in the house. No bags with holes in the edges, boxes, etc. I've moved the stove. (See fridge notes.) Nada. Pantry's clear, too. Heard sounds in the bathroom - nada. Possibly under the house? In the subfloor? Can't find any droppings.

The last two springs something has been in the attic crawlspace. We plugged the vent holes with steel wool. (Bad idea - 8 weeks of fly cycles later...Seriously bad idea.) We tossed in a few handfuls of moth ball crystals. (worse idea - Don't believe everything you research on the net. The fumes drove us out of the house for a week. And note repeated fly cycles. Did you know that no exterminator deals with flying pests? Too hard to get rid of. Yep. I agree.)

As I listen to this little bugger chew as I type, he sounds like he should be right at my feet, staring at me. I swear he's eating linoleum. Maybe I'm just hallucinating from lack of sleep. But I swear, he's RIGHT THERE. And invisible.

Please. Ideas. Before I go all caddyshack on the house and start blowing holes in the floor. If not for me, then for my daughter. Who may self-destruct if this thing isn't removed.

The house may never be clean and I might throw scraps of food the kid's way if they complain loud enough. My butt will be stuck to the couch playing the New Super Mario Brothers. DH really wanted this game for the Wii and Target had it on sale this week so I went out and bought it. The thing is DH is out of town this week, so it's up to me to "test" it out and make sure it's worth the money. So far, I'm lovin' it! Anyone else have it yet?
